Millions watched President Obama step off Air Force One and be greeted by a senior Cuban government official, instead of the Cuban president Raul Castro. Even German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is not a fan of Obama and has publicly said, that she has little respect for him, greeted him at the Tegal airport.
Mr. Obama gave a news conference today with Cuban President Raul Castro, and the press took the opportunity to openly question Mr. Castro about the jailing of political prisoners, and other topics that they cannot normally do without the international spotlight.
This was a big photo opportunity for the governments. Cuba is dirt poor and the Soviet Union/Russia economic and military aid that dried up two decades has devastated the country.
The outcome will be that President Obama will promise enormous amounts of economic and food aid, and some trade. There are many complex issues to be worked out with the “American businesses” that were nationalized by Fidel Castro. How do you work that out with the Mafia?
The Cubans want to blockade lifted and it should be for a number of reasons but larger if we can do business and provide foreign aid to Communist China and Socialist Russia we can work with Cuba and Haiti.
Mr. Castro immediately attacked the United States for hypocrisy in human rights, medical care, race relations and the achievements of Cuba. He praised the Revolution and ranted on for 10 minutes. Castro was clear that “
we should promote links that benefit our peoples.”

P.S. Mr. Castro, we are not going to allow Obama to give back Guantanamo Naval Base, like Carter did the Panama Canal.
